The Perineum: AKA the Taint

If you’re a guy, there’s a very high chance you’ve never once said the word perineum out loud.

Instead, you’ve probably called it:

  • “The taint”

  • “The gooch”

  • “The no-man’s land”

  • “The undercarriage”

  • “The danger zone”

  • Maybe even “the grundle” if you’re a little old school

And if you’ve spent enough time on the internet, you’ve definitely seen some unhinged alternatives floating around too.

But here’s the thing…

For a body part with this many nicknames, a shocking number of guys are still out here Googling:

  • “Where is the gooch?”

  • “Why does my taint hurt?”

  • “Is this normal???”

So let’s clear it up—without making it weird.

What It Actually Is

The perineum is the area between your scrotum and your anus.

That’s it. That’s the whole mystery.

But underneath that small patch of skin is a ton going on, it’s not just empty space. It is a busy intersection of muscles, nerves, and blood vessels that are doing a lot more than you think.

This area is part of your pelvic floor, which is basically the foundation of your core. Think of it like a hammock or sling that supports your bladder, bowel, and (yes) plays a major role in sexual function.

So yeah…this “in-between” zone is doing a lot more than it gets credit for.

Why It Matters (More Than You Think)

That gooch/grundle/taint area is directly involved in:

Erections

Muscles here help keep blood where it needs to be. If they’re not working well, things can feel weaker or harder to maintain.

Ejaculation

These muscles contract rhythmically during ejaculation. If they’re off, timing and sensation can feel different.

Urinary Control

Dribbling, weak stream, feeling like you didn’t fully empty—this area plays a role in all of it.

Bowel Movements

If these muscles don’t relax properly, you get straining, constipation, or that “I know I have to go but nothing’s happening” feeling.

Pain (The Part Nobody Talks About)

This can show up as:

  • Pain with sitting

  • Testicular or penile discomfort

  • Pain after ejaculation

  • That vague “something’s off” feeling you can’t quite explain

Why Guys Run Into Problems Here

A few big ones:

  • Sitting all day (desk job = constant pressure)

  • Stress → low-level clenching you don’t even notice

  • Overdoing Kegels (yeah…not always the answer)

  • Injuries, lifting, or poor coordination

A lot of guys assume they need to strengthen this area.

In reality, most need to learn how to relax and coordinate it better.

What You Can Actually Do

Keep it simple:

  • Stop clenching all day (seriously—check yourself right now)

  • Breathe into your stomach, not your chest

  • Don’t force pee or push when you poop

  • Move more, sit less

If something feels off—pain, urinary changes, sexual symptoms—that’s not something you just ignore and hope it goes away.

Final Thought

Call it whatever you want—the taint, the gooch, the grundle.

Just know this:
It’s not some random strip of skin. It’s a key part of your pelvic floor, and it plays a major role in how your body actually functions.

And if it’s not working right, there’s a reason—and there’s a way to fix it.
